"SUBLIME THOUGHTS" LESSEN THE HARDSHIPS OF LIFE by ADIB HOURANI My father was my only inspiration for my past, my present and my future, because I grew up initiated by his wisdom and perception in everything we may experience in this world, I preserved the most valuable of what he wrote inside my mind and my soul as a valuable gift he left for all of us. Adib Hourani was born in 1920 to a renowned family in Merjayoun, Lebanon. As a young man he went to Palestine to join his father in their holdings in land, livestock and agriculture. He holds degrees in literature and sciences from the British Institute of Technology and the Correspondent of Michigan University. In 1948 due to the Arab-Israeli war, he left Palestine, and the family lost everything and move back to Lebanon. He lost his beloved wife and has experienced all of the sadness and terrible civil war atrocities in Lebanon. Not only has he spent many months in underground shelters trying to survive the war, but during his precious lifetime he has witnessed the destruction of a once splendid and beautiful country. His book represents his spirit and a silent cry with a beautiful escape to a better world. Part of the book is a spiritual feeling emanating warm closeness and an escape to nature as a vivid contrast to the destruction and ugliness of war. Throughout all of his life, God, nature and beauty were the major foundation of a life that is beautiful and worth living despite all the tragedies. The cover page of the book is a watercolor painting of his daughter Dédé Hourani.
